Besides receiving a telegram from Her Majesty the Queen to congratulate her on her 100th birthday, Muriel Walton received a great present from her local Gala Bingo Club: 100 days of free bingo. Also, the bingo club located in Station Road, Harrow, organized a party to celebrate with one of their most loyal customers.
The celebration included a special birthday cake and, of course, bingo games. “It was really nice for everyone to go to so much effort, it was great. I had a party on Saturday too and it was the first time in 12 years that all my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were in the same room together,” Muriel said.
When asked about her secret to making 100, the nice lady answered that she really has no secret. “You'll have to ask the man upstairs, but I guess being active as often as I can has helped. I hate staying indoors. Up until I broke my leg a few years ago I would get on the bus to Brent Cross, go out for something to eat - anything to get out,” she explained.
About her habits, Muriel commented that she first smoked on her wedding day in 1936 and she continued smoking until she turned 95. Also, she drinks from time to time. But for sure, her main secret is playing bingo, an activity scientists have found to keep one’s mind active and agile.
